Emotional, Social and Physical Wellness and the Impact on Life-Long Learning

Discipline means "to teach: and our goal at Apohaqui Elementary School is to teach or guide students toward positive personal growth; that is, exploring his or her personality traits and skills, taking personal responsibility for his or her behaviour, developing social skills and positive self-esteem, and learning how to communicate effectively with others. We believe that a healthy lifestyle optimizes learning, and we also believe that as students learn and practice pro-social skills more and more that negative behaviours will be exhibited less and less.

Our vision statement states that we have a right to come to a school where we are safe, where we are treated respectfully, and where we can learn. Our school rules, "Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Prepared to Learn" put action words to our vision statement and summarizes our responsibilities both to ourselves and to others to make this happen. Although we call these "school rules," these are guidelines that will help students lead productive, healthy lives at school, at home, at work, and in the community.
